Sodium Perchlorate

Product Application Synonyms:           Perchloric acid, sodiumsalt, monohydrate Recommended Use : Explosives, rocket fuel. For general blasting purposes in quarrying and/ or mining operations An exceptional oxidizer with additional useful properties, perchlorate is widely used today by industry as an initiator in industrial explosives. - used in difficult blasting applications -   Sensitizing agent – Some of the modern commercial explosives products may contain sodium perchlorate as a chemical sensitizing agent. These products may include emulsions, water gels, delay elements in detonators, and some seismic explosives. -        Under some circumstances, an explosives manufacturer may use a chemical sensitizer such as perchlorate to increase the shock-initiation sensitivity of an emulsion or water gel product. Emulsion and water gel–type products sensitized using perchlorates are generally designed for specialized applications such as wet/hard/dense rock blasting, in applications to expand drilling patterns or to address excessive rock burdens, in tight underground cuts and tight trenching situations, high precompression conditions, and deep wet trenches and boreholes. In these applications, including certain trenching and utility work, some mine blasting, and specific construction-related blasting activities, perchlorates may be used to preserve product sensitivity where normal sensitizing agents may be conditionally compromised. In these applications, perchlorates have been found particularly effective in maintaining the sensitivity of the explosive. Perchlorate-containing explosives typically have a high density and high explosive energy, making them suitable in wet/hard/dense rock blasting applications, or in general blasting applications to expand drilling patterns or to address excessive rock burdens. Additional situations where perchlorate-containing products are sometimes used include tight underground cuts, tight trenching applications, deep wet trenches, deep wet boreholes, and locations with high pre-compression conditions. Dosage The content of perchlorate in these products is variable, depending on the manufacturer, but can be 20% to 30% or more by weight. Documentation :
